Chronic stress must be taken notice of

Protect your health by understanding and managing your stress.

Chronic stress differs from acute stress in both being longer term and more serious. It can continue for months or years without the sufferer realising the cause.

There may be no bears around to threaten you, but there are imaginary ones and busy modern day lifestyles bring perceived threats that just don't go away, so short-term stress can turn into long-term stress, an unnecessary and dangerous part of your life.

Severe long-term stress can result in response to;

  • long-term pressured work
  • long-term financial problems
  • long-term relationship breakdown
  • bullying and/ or abuse
  • reorganisation at work
  • a series of acute stress events
  • serious illness
  • out of date beliefs instilled in childhood
  • memories of situations where you felt you had no control and have not resolved the event or feelings and thoughts associated

Long-term serious stress can damage your body, your mind, your relationships and life.

Sufferers often cannot see a way out, become used to the stress symptoms and sadly learn to live with them, often not realising the cause, suffering consciously or sub-consciously for months or even years.

The health impact of such long-term stress are severe, ranging from heart disease, stroke, cancer and depression; for more information see stress related diseases.

IMPORTANT; If you believe you may suffer from severe stress contact you doctor immediately to check out any medical problems before beginning a stress management programme.
